Can stye be prevented?

Can stye be prevented?

A stye (sty) is a red, painful lump near the edge of your eyelid that may look like a boil or a pimple

As a rule, it disappears in a few days without specific treatment, however, if it does not improve in time, it is recommended to consult a doctor. Based on the diagnosis, the doctor will prescribe appropriate antibiotic drops or anti-inflammatory cream. In some clinical cases, it is necessary to take antibiotics in the form of medicine. In acute clinical cases, a mini-surgical intervention is used to drain the pus from the stye.

For the prevention of infection, it is provided:

  • Observe personal hygiene, wash your hands often with warm water and soap;
  • Do not touch the eyes;
  • Throw away old cosmetics. Do not give others for your cosmetics;
  • Never sleep with makeup on your eyes;
  • Make sure the contact lenses are clean;
  • If you have already had stye and you suspect a recurrence, apply a warm compress before the infection spreads;
  • At the first symptom of inflammation of the edges of the eyelid, consult a doctor and follow all the recommendations given by the doctor.

You are in the risk group of developing stye if:

  • You touch your eyes with unwashed hands;
  • You put on contact lenses without disinfecting them or washing your hands;
  • You sleep with makeup at night;
  • You use old, expired cosmetics;
  • Chronic blepharitis in the anamnesis;
  • Rosacea in the anamnesis.
