When should you see an ophthalmologist?
When a person feels a foreign body in the eye, it is usually an eyelash, dust or sand.
However, sometimes the cause of this feeling is eye diseases (corneal damage, ulcer, dry eye, blepharitis, conjunctivitis, chalazion, and others). By itself, these eye pathologies are accompanied by corresponding (individual) symptoms along with the feeling of a foreign body.
When to consult a doctor?
If you feel as if there is a foreign body in the eye, it is necessary to consult a doctor for a complete examination.
You should consult an ophthalmologist if you do not understand what type of foreign body may be the cause of discomfort.
You should contact your doctor if the artificial tears do not moisten the eyes properly, the course of treatment did not produce results.
In case of infection, the condition of the eye must be assessed by a doctor and determine whether antibiotic therapy is necessary.
A visit to the doctor is recommended for the following symptoms:
- Eye pain;
- Loss of sight;
- Strong discharge from the eye;
- Scar of the conjunctiva;
- Constant sensation as if there is a foreign body in the eye.
