What is emotional attachment?
Emotional attachment is a strong bond between 2 people - that person can be a friend, family member or romantic partner.
In itself, attachment plays an important role in a relationship, a connection. Yes, emotional attachment can occur without any romantic or sexual desire or attraction.
When you feel close to someone, that's when the connection is made, and the desire to deepen the relationship increases. This attachment makes you feel safe, comfortable, happy.
Yes, some level of attachment is healthy and normal, but sometimes it becomes pathological.
An emotional attachment is in an unhealthy stage if:
- You have become so dependent on others that no matter how well you do your work, you need to be praised;
- Lose self-respect, you no longer pay attention to what you feel;
- You feel like you can't live without him, you don't know how to live without him by your side;
- The balance in the relationship has been broken - one party is always right, makes a decision completely independently, always needs emotional support, and so on.
