Unsteady gait - ataxic gait

What does wobbly gait mean?

This term describes a gait that is unstable and can lead to injury if not treated in time.

The cause can be chronic or temporary.

Unsteady gait increases the risk of falling and, therefore, of a fracture or other type of traumatic injury.

A wobbly gait is called an ataxic gait by doctors, and this term implies that the patient's gait is abnormal, uncoordinated, and unstable.

This type of gait is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • Dizziness during movement;
  • Indecisive manner;
  • The patient has difficulty maintaining balance;

Consult your doctor if you have fallen for this reason in the past or if you feel that you have trouble keeping your balance with an unsteady gait.
