What is anhedonia?
Anhedonia is a diagnosis that means a person has difficulty experiencing joy or pleasure. You feel as if you are dizzy, numb to activities that once gave you pleasure, have lost interest.
A person with anhedonia finds it difficult to enjoy life, has no desire to spend time with people, and avoids spaces where he can be happy as much as possible.
There are two types of anhedonia:
- Social - you don't like to be surrounded by people;
- Physical - you don't like to be touched, sound or smell irritates you.
Anhedonia is a symptom of the following conditions:
- Depression;
- Schizophrenia;
- Bipolar disorder;
- Parkinson's disease;
- Post-traumatic stress disorder;
- Traumatic brain injury.
There is no specific treatment for it - the doctor manages this symptom against the background of the treatment of the diagnosed, causative disease. In some clinical cases, combined treatment is necessary.
Treatment is essential because anhedonia affects both mental and physical health.
Examples of complicated clinical cases are:
- Depression;
- Social isolation;
- Anxiety;
- It is difficult for the patient to communicate with the people around him;
- Mood change;
- Lack of energy, fatigue;
- Nutritional deficiency.
