Shoulder rotator cuff injury

Shoulder rotator cuff injury

What is a shoulder rotator cuff injury?

The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that surrounds the shoulder joint.

Rotator cuff injuries are the most common of all shoulder injuries - the risk increases with age (physiological aging).

Injury is common in the body of people who do a job where they have to perform the same movements. The disease may develop on the background of trauma (fall, accident).

Risk factors are:

  • Age (diagnosis is common in people over 60);
  • A job that requires repetitive shoulder movements;
  • Some types of sports;
  • Family anamnesis, genetics.

Physiotherapy is recommended to strengthen the muscle and improve elasticity. However, in some clinical cases, the rotator cuff of the shoulder is torn due to trauma and surgical intervention is required.

Patients describe the pain as follows:

  • Dull pain in the depth of the shoulder;
  • Have trouble sleeping;
  • It is difficult for them to brush their hair and they cannot bring their hand to their back because of the pain;
  • The pain is accompanied by weakness in the shoulder.

If left untreated, shoulder joint weakness will develop or you will lose the ability to move the shoulder joint permanently.
