What is urinary retention?
Urinary retention is a condition in which a person has difficulty emptying the bladder completely.
Pathology can be formed in the body of both women and men. Urinary retention can be acute or chronic.
Causes of the disease are:
- A kind of obstruction, suffocation, blockage in the area from which urine is released;
- A side effect of medication prescribed for the treatment of another pathology;
- Nerve disorder, due to which the ability to communicate between the brain and the urinary system decreases;
- Infection and swelling;
- A side effect of a medication prescribed for a certain surgical procedure.
The symptoms are varied.
Some patients with chronic form find it difficult to release urine, urinate. Some patients have decreased urine flow. Others have the urge to urinate, but are unable to initiate the process (pass urine). Some people with this diagnosis have frequent urges to urinate.
In the acute form, the patient suffers from a strong urge to urinate or only a small amount is released from the body.
