The main symptom of appendicitis (inflammation of the intestine) is abdominal pain (in the navel area).
The pathological process can develop at any age, although the diagnosis is especially common in people aged 10 to 30 years.
As soon as the symptoms appear, the patient should be transferred to the clinic, because if you do not treat in time, the risk of complications increases. One of the complications of appendicitis is its rupture - during this process, the infection spreads in the abdominal cavity. An example of another complicated clinical case is an abscess (an inflammatory process of tissues with purulent formations).
For diagnosis it’s provided:
- Physical examination of the patient, collection of symptoms, study of medical history;
- Blood analysis;
- Urine analysis;
- Computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, or abdominal ultrasound may be necessary.
The standard method of treatment is surgical removal of the appendix (the procedure is called an appendectomy).
Before surgery, the patient may be prescribed antibiotics to treat the infection.
