What is antibiotic-associated enterocolitis?
A form of enterocolitis known as antibiotic-associated enterocolitis may develop after a course of antibiotic therapy.
Bacteria live in the gut of a practically healthy person, which helps the digestive system to process and break down food, however, when treated with antibiotics, a large part of this type of bacteria dies, unfortunately, this process creates an ideal environment for harmful bacteria, i.e. microbes that cause infection. The bacterium (Clostridium difficile) releases toxins in the body, and this toxin damages the inner wall of the intestine, causing inflammation.
Notable symptoms are:
- Abdominal spasm
- Bloating;
- The number of toilets is increased;
- Watery, loose diarrhea;
- Heat
- Tiredness
- Common weakness;
- Acute abdominal pain.
It should be noted that pseudomembranous enterocolitis is expected to develop due to this form of enterocolitis.
