What is leukonychia?
The medical term leukonychia describes a condition where white spots appear on the nail.
Almost all healthy people notice this type of spots once in their life.
As a rule, leukonychia is formed on the background of trauma to the nail or finger, and in a large percentage of clinical cases there are no symptoms of any serious disease.
White spots on the nail may appear for other reasons, for example, these risk factors are:
- Allergic reaction;
- Fungal infection;
- Genetics;
- Nail injury;
- Some medications (some kind of side effect);
- Poisoning;
- Nail psoriasis;
- Hand eczema.
