What is venous insufficiency?
Venous insufficiency is a condition where a vein has difficulty returning/pumping blood from the lower extremities to the heart.
Pathology is usually formed due to blood clots or varicose veins.
The diagnosis is much more common in women, and mostly people over 50 years of age are affected.
Other risk factors include:
- Blood clotting;
- Varicose veins;
- Obesity;
- Pregnancy;
- Tobacco;
- Cancer;
- Muscle weakness;
- Injury to the leg;
- Family anamnesis of venous insufficiency;
- Sitting or standing motionless for a long time, etc.
The following symptoms are characteristic of venous insufficiency:
- Swelling of legs;
- Pain that worsens with standing and eases if you raise your leg;
- Leg spasm/cramp;
- Feeling of heaviness, pulsation or itching in the legs;
- Thickening of the skin of the leg;
- The skin in the knee area changes color;
- Varicose veins;
- Sensation of tension in the muscle.
