Why is a treadmill, cardiac stress test prescribed?
A stress test shows how the heart works during physical activity. It also may be called a stress exercise test.
A stress test usually involves walking on a treadmill or riding a stationary bike, while the electrocardiogram is being recorded simultaneously. In the course of the study, taking into account all safety norms, the level of physical activity gradually increases, accordingly, the electrocardiogram, blood pressure, frequency of heart contractions, breathing changes.
The treadmill test reveals any electrocardiographic changes, so the doctor gets information about the patient's heart health. Simply put, the purpose of a stress test is to determine how the heart works during physical activity.
A health care provider may recommend a stress test to:
- Diagnose coronary artery disease.
- Diagnose heart rhythm problems.
- Guide treatment of heart disorders.
