What is an abdominal migraine?
Abdominal migraine is a form of migraine characterized by episodes of abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
It differs from a typical migraine because in this form the patient does not suffer from a headache - as you know, a headache is the main symptom of a migraine.
The disease is especially common in children. An attack may last from 2 to 72 hours. It should be noted that abdominal migraine is asymptomatic between attack episodes.
Abdominal migraine symptoms include:
- Pain in the abdomen (the patient feels pain in the center of the abdomen, around the navel);
- Loss of appetite;
- Nausea;
- Vomiting;
- Pale skin;
- In some clinical cases, increased sensitivity to light and noise.
As a rule, the diagnosis is common in children under the age of 10, although it can also be formed in the body of an adult.
Unfortunately, the exact cause of the disease is unknown.
Generally, an attack occurs without any warning signs, so it is difficult to identify what risk factors a person should avoid.
