Vocal cord paralysis occurs when the nerve impulses to your voice box (larynx) are disrupted.
Often doctors do not know the exact cause of the pathological process.
Causes:
- Injury to the vocal cord during surgery.
- Neck or chest injury.
- Stroke.
- Tumors.
- Infections.
- Neurological conditions.
Diagnosis
Your doctor will ask about your symptoms and lifestyle, listen to your voice, and ask you how long you've had voice problems.
Laryngoscopy, laryngeal electromyography, magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, or radiographic examination of the esophagus may be ordered for diagnosis.
