Increased sensitivity to air temperature

Increased sensitivity to air temperature

What symptoms should you see a doctor for?

Doctors distinguish several types:

  • Sensitivity to heat;
  • Sensitivity to cold;
  • Increased sensitivity to both heat and cold.

Temperature sensitivity includes certain physiological mechanisms:

  • Vascular reaction;
  • Neurological effects;
  • Age-related changes.

If you are intolerant to hot weather, it is recommended to:

  • Move to a cool place, in the shade;
  • Remove excess clothing;
  • Lie down;
  • Pour water on your skin;
  • Drink cold liquids;

Call an ambulance if you experience symptoms of heat stroke.

If you have developed sensitivity to cold weather, we recommend:

  • In case of dizziness, it is better to sit or lie down;
  • Drink water;
  • Go to a place with a neutral temperature.

Prevention is provided by:

  • Drink adequate amounts of water before, during, and after exercise;
  • Avoid high-intensity exercise in extreme heat;
  • Control your breathing in cold weather and dress warmly;
  • Do not stay in the cold for long periods of time.

Call emergency medical services if you experience acute signs of heatstroke:

  • Dizziness lasting more than 15 minutes;
  • Severe headache;
  • Confusion, loss of consciousness;
  • High body temperature;
  • Change in mental status.

Risk groups include:

  • Children and adolescents;
  • The elderly;
  • Obesity, overweight;
  • People with chronic diseases;
  • Taking certain types of medications;
  • History of multiple sclerosis or other neurological disease;
  • Cardiovascular problems.
