Ophthalmoplegia is a weakness or paralysis of the eye muscle.
Diagnosis can be made by physical examination and eye movement testing. A computed tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan may be ordered to better examine the eye. A blood test may be done to determine if ophthalmoplegia is caused by another condition.
You may be referred to an ophthalmologist or neurologist for treatment.
The treatment method is individual and depends on the type of ophthalmoplegia, symptoms, and underlying condition.
Special glasses may be prescribed to improve vision and treat blurred vision. In some clinical cases, migraines may need to be managed and ophthalmoplegia may also be relieved.
