Photosensitivity - When the skin reacts negatively to sunlight

What is photosensitivity?

Photosensitivity is a diagnosis that means that the skin reacts negatively to sunlight or ultraviolet radiation.

Unlike sunburn, the symptoms of photosensitivity appear within a few minutes. If a reaction occurs even after a short stay in the sun, you should consult a doctor.

The following symptoms are characteristic:

• rash;
• itchy skin;
• swollen skin;
• skin changes color;

If the sensitivity covers a large area of the skin, more severe symptoms occur, namely:

• dizziness;
• headache;
• nausea;
• weakness;
• wheezing.

Common causes of photosensitivity are:

• Autoimmune conditions;
• Genetic diseases;
• Side effects of certain medications;
• Skin diseases;
• Skin care products.
