The main purpose of the foot is to help you move.
However, the lower limb is also an ideal indicator of the general state of health, and this or that symptom can point you to various diseases.
Some signs are specific and appear directly at the time of a foot problem.
If you have a spasm, a cramp-like sensation after physical activity, and especially in the heat, you are likely dehydrated. Muscles need water and electrolytes for normal relaxation and contraction.
In peripheral arterial disease, patients experience leg pain during exercise, as well as a weak pulse in the lower limb and pale skin, and wounds on the foot heal slowly or not at all.
You most likely have diabetes if you complain of leg pain, burning sensation, numbness and tingling.
The most common complaint is leg swelling, and a number of conditions cause this symptom. It is least worrisome if the cause of numbness is trauma (sprains, overexertion of the foot).
Numbness can be caused by serious diseases such as:
- Blood clot in the leg;
- Heart failure;
- Kidney disease or kidney failure;
- Liver disease.
