What is meteoropathy?
Meteoropathy is a disorder of the physical and mental state caused by changes in weather or season.
According to psychologists, the cause of discomfort is that the body has difficulty adapting to weather changes.
Meteoropathy is characterized by depressive symptoms that occur regularly at the same time and, as a rule, in winter. Clinical symptoms appear in early autumn, peak in winter, and the patient's condition improves in summer.
In some clinical cases, summer meteoropathy is also manifested, although this is a very rare form and affects only 3% of patients. Symptoms of summer meteoropathy appear in early spring and worsen in the summer season - with this type of meteoropathy, the patient feels relief in winter.
The following signs are observed during meteoropathy:
- Depressed mood;
- Irritability;
- Anxiety;
- Drowsiness;
- Tendency to social isolation;
- Weakness, fatigue;
- Decreased ability to concentrate;
- Increased appetite;
- Abdominal pain;
- Joint pain.
Risk groups prone to this diagnosis are:
- Women;
- The elderly;
- History of depression and anxiety;
- Stressful and irregular lifestyle.
