Dry throat

Dry throat

What causes a dry throat?

This symptom is caused by a number of conditions - in a large percentage of clinical cases, the cause is mild, although sometimes it is quite possible that it is due to a more serious illness.

The course of treatment for a dry throat is individual and depends on the cause, for example, if it is a symptom of seasonal allergies, appropriate medication is prescribed, for colds and flu, home treatment is sufficient, etc.

You will wake up with a dry throat if you sleep with your mouth open or breathe through your mouth at night. Dry throat may occur due to dehydration.

You should consult a doctor if you notice the following signs:

  • Difficulty swallowing;
  • Shortness of breath;
  • Hoarseness;
  • Allergic rash;
  • Chest pain;
  • Severe fatigue;
  • High fever (38 and above).

You should consult a doctor if your throat has been sore for more than a week.
