Bone spurs

Bone spurs

What is a bone spur?

Bone spurs are a common side effect of aging, osteoarthritis, and tissue damage.

This diagnosis means that the bone tissue has an excessive growth, which visually resembles a smooth bump on the bone.

In a large percentage of clinical cases, it does not cause symptoms, but in cases of severe pain, difficulty with movement, and a decrease in the pace of daily life, surgical intervention is required.

Bone spurs tend to occur in areas of the bone where a lot of body weight is carried, such as the spine or heel.

Some diseases can cause bone spurs, such as:

  • Osteoporosis;
  • Osteoarthritis;
  • Rheumatoid arthritis;
  • Lupus;
  • Degenerative disc disease;
  • Tendonitis of the foot;
  • Spinal stenosis;
  • Repetitive injuries;
  • Car accidents, falls, falls from heights, or sports injuries.
