Skull surgery

Skull surgery

Interesting information on this topic.

The article discusses a plastic and reconstructive surgical method, the purpose of which is to correct congenital and acquired deformities of the head, skull, face, neck, jaw and nearby structures.

A plastic surgeon works together with a neurosurgeon during the procedure - a segment of the skull is cut to reach the area intended for surgical manipulation; after the deformity is repaired, the skull bone is replaced - there is little or no scar left.

Only plastic surgeons who have properly studied and practiced surgical methods for treating bone, muscle, nerve, fat, and skin are allowed to work on the skull.

If a future doctor (medical student) wants to work in this direction, he should choose plastic surgery.

This type of plastic surgery treats the following pathologies:

  • Craniosynostosis;
  • Cleft lip;
  • Micrognathia;
  • Microsomia;
  • Acute and chronic facial bone fractures;
  • Treacher Collins syndrome;
  • Apert syndrome;
  • Crouzon syndrome;
  • Congenital ear anomalies and other pathologies.
