Brucellosis - Diagnosis and Treatment Methods

What are the symptoms of brucellosis?

Brucellosis is a bacterial infection that spreads from animals to humans. In a large percentage of clinical cases, the cause of infection is raw or unpasteurized dairy products. Sometimes it is transmitted by airborne droplets.

The following signs are characteristic:

  • Chills;
  • Loss of appetite;
  • Fever;
  • Fatigue,
  • General weakness;
  • Muscle, back and joint pain;
  • Headache.

A blood test is prescribed to diagnose brucellosis.

The following computer studies are prescribed to detect complications of brucellosis:

  • X-ray examination;
  • Computed tomography;
  • Magnetic resonance imaging;
  • Evaluation of the composition of cerebrospinal fluid;
  • Echocardiography.

The goal of treatment for brucellosis is to relieve symptoms, minimize any potential complications, and prevent the disease from recurring.

Your doctor will prescribe appropriate antibiotics - antibiotic therapy will last for at least 6 weeks.

Please note that symptoms may not be completely resolved for several months. It is possible for the disease to recur or for the infection to become chronic.
