What is Main Character Syndrome?
It is not a medical diagnosis, but the term is actively discussed on social media.
It refers to people who try to be the center of attention everywhere and in everything and feel as if any story or situation is about them, that is, they play the main role in the scenario.
With Main Character Syndrome, a person thinks that they are the first person and that others should simply be content with secondary roles. If you suffer from Main Character Syndrome, you think that you are the most important person in the room and radiate such strong energy that you overshadow others.
If you tell a person with this syndrome about your problem, don't expect sympathy in response - the only reaction from them will be to start talking about their own pain; it's funny, but you may even have to calm them down.
Do you know someone who was at a friend's birthday party, but you couldn't figure out if the party was for them or for an anniversary? Congratulations, you have someone with the main character syndrome in your circle.
Of course, with this personality type, you will have difficulty in any type of relationship - you will not be able to play the main role in every situation, there are others.
The following types of behavior and character are characteristic of the main character syndrome:
- Self-deception;
- A strong desire to attract attention;
- Expressing dramatic behavior;
- You have no ability to empathize;
- You are constantly inventing something and making up stories;
- You love to romanticize other people's problems;
- Your own perception of reality.
