Lung Carcinoid Tumor

Lung Carcinoid Tumor

What is lung carcinoid tumor?

It is a rare type of cancer that develops in neuroendocrine cells in the lungs.

Typical lung carcinoid tumors grow slowly and rarely spread to other parts of the body, but atypical forms can progress rapidly and metastasize beyond the lungs.

In a large percentage of clinical cases, the treatment method is surgery.

The following symptoms are characteristic:

• Coughing up blood or mucus;
• Chest pain;
• Shortness of breath;
• Wheezing.

If the tumor produces large amounts of the hormone serotonin, you will experience symptoms of carcinoid syndrome, namely:

• Severe, severe diarrhea;
• Flushing, a feeling of warmth in the face and neck;
• Unexplained weight gain;
• Shortness of breath or asthma-like symptoms.

When neuroendocrine cells multiply in large numbers, the risk of cancer increases. Scientists do not know why the cells begin to grow uncontrollably.

No one is immune to carcinoid tumors, although the diagnosis is relatively common in patients aged 45 to
