Abdominal tenderness

Abdominal tenderness

What disease causes this symptom?

Abdominal tenderness is a form of pain that a patient complains of when someone puts pressure on the abdomen.

Statistically, the most common complaint of emergency department visits is abdominal pain.

The cause of the discomfort may be a sports injury. This area of the body is easily injured during sports activities. Since it does not contain any protective structures, the chance of serious injury to the abdominal cavity is high. A hernia is one of the diagnoses that can develop with serious traumatic injuries. Other possible injuries include damage to the muscle or internal organs.

That is why a physical examination is necessary when someone is hit in the abdomen during sports activities. Press (apply pressure) on the injured person's abdomen for a few seconds and quickly raise your arms - if the patient feels pain during this maneuver, it is likely that some organ has been damaged and urgent medical intervention is required.

Other causes of abdominal bloating may include:

  • Appendicitis;
  • Gastritis;
  • Diverticulitis;
  • Inflammatory bowel disease.
