When should you see a doctor?
People describe dizziness as a feeling of lightheadedness, loss of balance, or a feeling of being out of sorts.
Sudden dizziness can be caused by an ear infection, low blood pressure, mental health problems, or other conditions.
Sudden dizziness can be caused by:
• A side effect of medication;
• High temperatures;
• Dehydration;
• Stress, anxiety, anger, or fear;
• Iron deficiency anemia;
• Migraines;
• Low blood sugar.
Be sure to see a doctor if you experience sudden dizziness frequently, if it doesn't go away after a few minutes, or if you have any of the following symptoms:
• Hearing loss;
• A ringing in the ears;
• You fall and have difficulty walking;
• Difficulty speaking;
• Chest pain;
• Blurred vision;
• Numbness in the limbs or face;
• Nausea;
• Unusual or severe headache.
Seek emergency medical attention if vertigo (a severe form of dizziness) is accompanied by a severe headache and high fever.
