Chronic abdominal bloating and distension

Chronic abdominal bloating and distension

Among gastrointestinal problems, abdominal bloating and distension are the most common symptoms.

Gastroenterologists confirm that patients most often present with this complaint - in some clinical cases, bloating and distension are simultaneously observed, and sometimes either one of these signs is manifested, or only the other (i.e., either bloating or distension).

In a large percentage of clinical cases, bloating and distension are usually accompanied by such gastrointestinal disorders as: functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, functional constipation.

Abdominal bloating and distension may occur for a number of reasons; they often appear due to food intolerance, previous infection (when the infectious process has disrupted the intestinal microbiota), viscerosomatic reflux.

The course of treatment is successful when the etiology is identified, the risk of exacerbation is determined, and the level.

The therapeutic approach to treatment includes diet (change in diet), probiotics, antibiotic therapy, prokinetic and antispasmodic drugs, neuromodulators.

Almost everyone has experienced abdominal bloating and distension at least once in their life. In a large percentage of clinical cases, the complaint is detected after eating and resolves spontaneously, that is, without specific medical intervention.

However, in some clinical cases, this complaint is chronic, excessively bothersome, and negatively affects the patient's daily life.

In general, women complain of bloating more often than men.
