Swollen gums

Swollen gums

What are the symptoms of this diagnosis?

Swollen gums are a symptom of gingivitis and other gum diseases. However, they sometimes appear against the background of infection, vitamin deficiency in the body, or hormonal imbalance.

The course of treatment is individual and depends on the cause.

When the gums are swollen, you will notice that the gums have acquired a red or purple color, and you are worried about bleeding.

The following dental problems cause swollen gums:

  • A foreign body stuck in the gum;
  • A festering tooth;
  • Inflammation of the gums;
  • Periodontitis;
  • Orthodontic treatment;
  • Caries;
  • An infected tooth;
  • A poorly developed row of teeth.

Other causes include:

  • A side effect of medication;
  • A viral infection;
  • A fungal infection;
  • Vitamin deficiency;
  • Untreated diabetes;
  • Tobacco use;
  • Hormonal changes;
  • Blood cancer.

You should definitely see a dentist if your swollen gums do not go away within a few weeks. See a dentist immediately if you experience severe pain that cannot be relieved by medication.
