Heat exhaustion - what are the symptoms of heat stroke?

Risk factors and causes.

Heat exhaustion, heat stroke, occurs during hot weather, high air temperatures.

As soon as the first unpleasant symptom appears, it is necessary to immediately move to the shade and cool the body; if the condition does not improve, call emergency medical help.

The main cause is that you are exercising or working in an environment where the temperature is high.

Typical symptoms are:

• Heavy sweating;
• Cold, clammy skin;
• Muscle spasms;
• Headache;
• Dizziness;
• Fatigue and weakness;
• Feeling thirsty;
• Nausea or vomiting;
• Tachycardia;
• Rapid and weak pulse;
• Rapid, deep breathing;
• High body temperature.

You are at high risk of heat exhaustion if you:

• work outdoors in hot weather;
• exercise in hot weather;
• travel to a country where the weather is much hotter than where you live;
• are over 65 and engage in vigorous physical activity in the heat.
