Is it possible to prevent leukopenia?

Leukopenia is a low level of leukocytes in the blood.

This diagnosis means that the number of white blood cells in the body is lower than normal, therefore, you are at risk of developing infections.

As doctors explain, you cannot prevent leukopenia, however, if you take a number of measures, your general health will improve, you will also avoid infections and the risk will be significantly reduced.

In particular, it is recommended:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water;
  • Get all necessary vaccinations;
  • Avoid people with colds;
  • Spend less time in areas where the risk of infection is high;
  • Even the most minor wounds should be treated;
  • Avoid breaking the skin as much as possible, even scratches;
  • You should pay attention to food processing - it is mandatory to thoroughly wash fruits and vegetables;
  • Do not use other people's personal items;
  • Always wear gloves when working in the garden;
  • Avoid lakes, rivers, and ponds;
  • If your doctor has prescribed you medication to prevent infection, take the medication as directed.
