What is scopophobia?

This is a phobia in which a person is afraid of being the center of attention, of being the object of intense gaze.

Yes, it is not unusual to feel uncomfortable when you are the center of attention, for example, when giving a public speech, but scopophobia is a much more severe form. Imagine that a person has a feeling that they are being carefully examined, observed, studied, critically looked at, etc. Anxiety can become so severe that a person practically withdraws from social interactions.

The following symptoms are characteristic:

  • Severe nervousness;
  • Blushing;
  • Rapid heartbeat;
  • Sweating or trembling;
  • Dry mouth;
  • Decreased ability to concentrate;
  • Restlessness;
