Homeostasis - how does the body maintain stability, balance?

What is homeostasis?

In medicine, the term homeostasis first appeared in 1926.

Homeostasis is the guarantee of stability and balance of the body. It tries to maintain internal state, balance temperature, blood sugar level, monitor, regulate psychological processes.

For example, when any function (body temperature, weight, sleep, thirst, hunger, etc.) is disturbed, homeostasis gets involved and tries to correct the situation.

Homeostasis regulates the changes in the body every day and tries to maintain balance.

Three main forms are known:

  • Thermoregulation (regulation of body temperature);
  • Osmoregulation (protection of water and electrolyte balance in cells);
  • Chemical regulation.

Homeostasis includes both physiological and behavioral responses.
