Have you noticed that you get a runny nose after eating certain foods?
A runny nose is a normal reaction of the body to a cold, flu or allergy, but sometimes food is the cause of this symptom.
The condition is known as gustatory rhinitis - in a large percentage of clinical cases, the reaction occurs against the background of spicy products. Some foods are strong stimuli for the trigeminal nerve.
The nose is not only an organ of smell - it also contains a nerve that produces mucus, which maintains moisture and helps regulate the flow of air. Gustatory rhinitis is common in people over the age of 50, and the cause is unknown.
During this type of rhinitis, the following symptoms appear:
- Measles;
- Nasal congestion;
- Difficult discharge;
- Phlegm in the throat.
The following products may cause discharge from the nose:
- Spicy dishes;
- Pepper;
- Garlic;
- Ginger;
- Spices;
- Hot sauce.
If you have this diagnosis, you would notice that the symptom disappears immediately after you stop eating spicy food.
