What is bronchospasm?

Bronchospasm is formed when the muscles that expand the bronchi (airways in the lungs) contract and become narrow.

In case of suddenly developed signs or acute symptoms, call for emergency help or refer to the emergency department of the nearest clinic.

Bronchospasm is a very unpleasant condition, because a person has the feeling that there is no air.

Bronchospasm can occur in anyone's body, but the diagnosis is especially common in people with allergies, asthma and other lung diseases.

Risk factors are:

  • Bacterial, viral or fungal infections in the lungs;
  • Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease;
  • Dust, pollen, animal dander and other allergens;
  • Physical exertion (bronchospasm caused by exercise);
  • Some perfumery products;
  • Cold air temperature;
  • Tobacco and others.

Bronchospasm often affects children and people over 65 years old.

The following symptoms appear:

  • A feeling of tightness in the chest;
  • Shortness of breath;
  • Fatigue;
  • Dizziness;
  • Cough;
  • Wheezing, wheezing.
