Vaginal bleeding

Vaginal bleeding

What is vaginal bleeding?

Vaginal bleeding is any bleeding from the vaginal area.

In a large percentage of clinical cases, this type of bleeding is not associated with menstruation.

Abnormal vaginal bleeding is any bleeding that occurs between menstrual periods or is unrelated to the normal cycle.

Vaginal bleeding cannot be predicted, is arbitrary, and is expected to be accompanied by pain or other symptoms.

Causes of vaginal bleeding (bleeding that is not related to menstruation) are:

  • Some diseases;
  • Some medications (a kind of side effect);
  • Pregnancy;
  • Hormones;
  • Menopause;
  • Trauma, injury;
  • Infection.

Keep in mind, stress negatively affects hormone levels and contributes to irregular periods, as well as being a risk factor for vaginal bleeding.
