Cold skin

Cold skin

Is your skin cold and clammy?

Often, this symptom appears on the background of increased sensitivity to cold temperatures or it is quite expected that the body cannot adequately regulate the temperature.

The reason may also be that the body loses heat faster than it can regenerate it.

If you don't dress for the cold weather and spend a lot of time outside in the cold, the risk of hypothermia or frostbite increases significantly.

In some clinical cases, the cause of cold skin is not necessarily the air temperature and may be a symptom of such diseases as: hypothyroidism, low blood sugar level, clogged artery.

Another reason may be:

  • Anorexia;
  • Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis;
  • Spinal cord injury;
  • Anemia;
  • History of shock or traumatic injury;
  • Sepsis;
  • Metabolic disorders.

You should definitely consult a doctor if the coldness of the skin does not go away despite being in a warm environment.

Consult a doctor for the following symptoms:

  • Your hands are cold due to the cold, the limb has changed color or numbness has been detected;
  • Cold skin is accompanied by fatigue, weight gain, hair loss, constipation;
  • Low blood sugar levels are recorded and you find it difficult to control/manage this episode at home;
  • You complain of shin pain when walking and the symptom disappears when you rest.

Call 911 for the following symptoms:

  • You are under the influence of cold temperature and you are unable to heat your body;
  • Acute pain, cold skin, color change, numbness in limbs;
  • Your ability to concentrate has decreased, it is difficult for you to wake up and speak adequately;
  • Dizziness;
  • Sugar level is still low despite taking sweets.
